Sikandra
The Mughal ruler Akbar, known as Akbar the Great, ruled an empire that extended across North India from 1556 to 1605. His time in power is considered the summit of Mughal rule in India.
Akbar's last resting place is situated in the peaceful ambience of Sikandra 3 km away from Agra. Akbar begins construction during his life length and his child, the Mughal Emperor Jahangir, finished it. Some of its plan features are similar to the plan of the Taj Mahal built later on in Agra. Akbar's tomb at Sikandra has a large arched entrance and green lawns, on which deer can be, see grazing, enclose the tomb. The entry is bedecked with sandstone inlay work just about the arch, and the inner face of the dome of the tomb is decorated with images of flora, geometric designs and Islamic lettering.
Built in the Indo-Saracenic style, Akbar's tomb at
Sikandra is a nonviolent setting for a leader who led an exciting life. Akbar came to the throne aged 13, following the death of his father Humayun. The calm resting place of the great Mughal ruler Akbar, at
